Sangria de Rivera

p4040010This might be my new wallpaper picture.

Now would be a good time to try this. You like wine? You like fruit? You like awesome? YOU TRY NOW!!!!

Ingredients:

2 bottles of red wine          I used a cabernet sauvignon.
6 ounces vodka                    I used Pearl Vodka
8 ounces cherry limeade
8 ounces pomegranate juice
1/4 cup sugar
1 Kiwi, peeled and diced
2 Oranges, cut into large pieces with rind
1 lime, sliced into thick pieces with rind
10 strawberries, quartered
2 pears, peeled and sliced very thin
1 mango, peeled and cut into smaller pieces without seed

Mix all the ingredients together in a large container that you can place in the refrigerator overnight.  When you are ready to serve spoon out some of the fruit into a glass then pour in the liquid.  Serve, but not too much, the fruit will take a lot of the alcohol taste away so this drink will sneak up on you if you’re not careful. If you have too much then let someone else drive, call a cab, or just stay the night where you are enjoying this drink.

Enjoy,

Eric

Looks like Sangria is popular…..….this one’s for my wife

  1. Now we will need a BBQ at the poolside…..oh, what about white sangria? What should I use in place of the juice in the recipe? Would s simple limeade do the magic?

  2. Hi Angie,

Use a Chardonnay for a white sangria. The juice is optional in the recipe, I should have mentioned that. A simple limeade would work, all flavors are just fine.

The most important thing with this recipe is to make sure you’re using good quality fruits, let it rest overnight in the refrigerator, make sure you have some friends to drink it with, and have a great time!!

  3. It’s a little different. My mom uses Vodka in hers so it’s an ode to her. I like Cabernet so that’s where the name came from………The Rivera’s do things a little different :)

  4. We love Sangria. You’re right that the fruit absorbs the alcohol, that’s why it’s great to have the party in your own home. You can nosh on all the tasty fruit.

Looks fantastic. However, here in Colorado we’ve just had two big snowstorms in a week, so I’ll have to wait a bit to drink sangria. Wait.. I bet it’s pretty good hot, no?

  6. Hi garlicqueen,

I’ve seen a few variations where it is served at room temperatures and slightly warmed. I was in Ecuador and they gave you the choice. Either way, it’s fine. The alcohol warms you up anyway!

  7. THANK YOU FOR THAT GREAT RECIPE THAT YOU INCLUDED. THIS WILL MAKE GREAT SUMMER ADDITION TO MY OUTDOOR COOKOUTS. HAVE A GREAT SPRING/SUMMER AND WE WILL CHAT AGAIN SOON. BYE.

  8. This looks really good Eric. It might be sunny right now.. but I bet you by the end of the day we will have had at least 4 significant weather changes. Its Seattle.. it wouldn’t be a spring day without hail, rain, sunshine, wind, and snow. But I would love to make this for a Seattle – August BBQ.

Great picture! Makes you want to dive right in…..
I love the idea to use Pomegranate juice in Sangria, never tried that before.
