Cookbook: Quay

January 31, 2011 by ericriveracooks

I’ve been waiting for this book for almost two months now and it finally arrived in the mail.  When this book came out in November it was on my “must buy” list because I saw one picture of a dish that chef Gilmore plated which was his sea pearls and I was mesmerized. This book, in my opinion, picks up where Michel Bras’ Essential Cuisine left off in 2002.  It’s updated with some of the modern cooking techniques but the […]

Uneeda Burger (Seattle, WA)

January 31, 2011 by ericriveracooks

See, I told you I’ve been on a burger fix lately. The chef/owner of Quinn’s (best poutine I’ve ever had…..foie gras poutine…..it’s life changing) opened up a burger place in Fremont called Uneeda Burger which is now home to my favorite burger in Seattle (not kidding).  That picture above is of their medi-terra burger.  It’s a lamb burger with tempura lemon, charred peppers, onions, manchego, arugula, and cilantro.  That is a whole lot of awesome and I think you should […]

Coming Soon……………….

January 31, 2011 by ericriveracooks

The focus is on micro greens this year.  A lot of it will be strictly indoor growing and we’ve purchased a few lamps and things to make it happen.  This is a gigantic next step in what the future will look like for the Rivera’s. Eric

Dope Burger (Seattle, WA)

January 31, 2011 by ericriveracooks

There’s a new burger in town and it’s dope (cheesy and corny line to intro. a restaurant….mmmmm cheese and corn…..what?…..focus Eric, focus). I’ve been in a little burger craze lately.  It has a lot to do with wanting to save money for my trip but it also has more to do with I know in about a year I won’t have access to really amazing burgers (“Eric, where are you going?!?!?!?! Somewhere far away…..), but that’s ok because a place […]

The Sriracha Projects

January 27, 2011 by ericriveracooks

My lemongrass crystal turned out to be amazing so I decided to step up my “crystal” game a little more by this time doing a sriracha crystal which will be ready in about 3 weeks. Here is a picture of the lemongrass crystal. I wanted to do something else with sriracha so I am infusing a salt that will be ready in about a week.  Instead of just squeezing from the bottle you can just season your food with sriracha […]

Cooking Demonstration: Bellevue Home Show- Spanish Tapas

January 25, 2011 by ericriveracooks

I did a cooking demonstration this past weekend at the Bellevue Home and Lifestyles Show.  I have been planning this event in my head over and over again and finally all the pieces fell together for this event the night before.  I wasn’t sure how far I wanted to take the food or if I would be able to cook everything fast enough in order to do what I wanted but I scrapped my list of ten things that I […]

Avalon (West Seattle)

January 24, 2011 by ericriveracooks

There is a new restaurant in West Seattle to check out.  The reason I was there is that it offers brunch on the weekends.  That’s a pretty important time to eat for me because it’s the only chance of the week that I get to sit down with Mindy for a meal.  This quarter I don’t have a day off or evening off so when it comes to searching for a place to eat on the weekend they better offer […]

Seafood City (Tukwila, WA)

January 24, 2011 by ericriveracooks

This is the only way you will find me shopping at a mall. Seafood City in Tukwila has been open for a few months now and I can’t get enough of it.  It’s a super clean grocery store inside of Southcenter Mall with a great selection of ingredients focusing on Philippine Cuisine. You’ll find tons of seafood (of course), meat, and other great things like a chicaron wall! I found a sauce called banana sauce that I’ve never tried before […]
